EMERGENCY SERVICES FREQUENCIES Tasmanian Fire Service
The Tasmanian Fire Brigade is active on it's main frequency of 79.0375 around the Hobart area. It is important to remember that due to Hobart being a quieter city compared to Melbourne, Sydney, etc that you can get long periods of inactivity on their frequencies. When they are active you will often hear something like "Clarence Street Control" which does not mean that is a fire station base, instead it is the location of the scene the fire-fighters are at. The other two frequencies of interest are the major incident Simplex (No.1 + 2), they are often used when co-ordinating bushfires. Please note you normally will only be able to pick up anything if it's a nearby fire. I've found the transmissions don't go very far. (Maybe 3-5 kilometres?)
Often when listening to the Fire Brigade you will hear 'Wilco' which means 'will comply' and message understood. Most transmissions will be short and simple with the fire truck simply saying arrived at the scene, also remember that "FireComm" is the name for 'base'. Some codes used: code orange or code 3 are normal road conditions and code red or code 1 is lights and sirens.
Tasmanian Ambulance Service and Saint Johns Ambulance Service We have three Ambulance services operating in Tasmania, the Government-run Public Ambulance Service, Saint John's First Aid and Volunteer Ambulance Service and Ambulance Private. The private Ambulance service may have radio communications but claim to use mobile phones (according to their website.) I find the Ambulance services very quiet, most of the communications are done before they leave. You will notice that "T.A.S" is their name for 'base'. TAS Repeaters 413.700
413.7 is the 'magic bullet' - it will replace 3 in your scanner.
