MARINE VHF & 27MHZ FREQUENCIES

The Marine frequencies are rather quiet in general here in Hobart, you do however get some activity during the day, when there are yacht races on the Derwent river they will normally use a couple of frequencies, also check out the Sailing Club's own frequencies available on the main page.

  • Channel 6  is used for Port Operations, Commercial usage and Search And Rescue.

  • Channel 8, Commercial usage and Port Operations.

  • Channel 9-14, Port operations

  • Channel 16 is the emergency channel (Distress and Safety).

  • Channel 20 is used for Port Operations.

  • Channels 23-28 are used by Seaphone - a way to communicate offshore. (See disclaimer at bottom of site.)

  • Channel 67 is also used for Distress and Safety.

  • Channel 68, Port operations.

  • Channel 71, professional fishing.

  • Channel 72, Yachts, Commercial usage and Port operations.

  • Channel 73, Yachts and Non-Commercial fishing.

  • Channel 74, Commercial usage.

  • Channel 77, Yachts and Commercial fishing.

  • Channel 78, Commercial usage.

  • Channel 79, Port operations.

  • Channel 87 & 88, AIS (see Ship Plotter for details.)

     

Coast Radio Hobart is on 460.225 (uplink), and the following freqs are commonly used: Ch.8, Ch.12, Ch.16, Ch.73.

Please note: 27Mhz Marine frequencies are not used any more in Australia, you will need to install a VHF Marine receiver, costing about $90 for communications on a boat. Never rely on a mobile phone off-shore, also any boats in the area who hear your distress call on channel 16 may be able to come and rescue you!
